Many people may not have heard the term ‘NCR pads’ before (as it is a print industry specific term) but NCR pads (also sometimes called carbon copy pads or duplicate pads) are one of our most popular products ordered by our customers. In short, NCR stands for 'no carbon required' and is an advancement of the old messy blue carbon paper. These pads are used to create multiple copies of a form quickly.
There are many benefits for using NCR pads such as:
- They are easy to manage as they are bound together with glue.
- They can save the user effort as each sheet uses the same template form that can be easily filled out multiple times at once.
- Carbon copy pads are fully customisable. Our NCR pads are fully customisable and can include company logos, address and contact details, plus bespoke tables, signature fields and much more. They are also available in a number of different sizes including all the popular ‘A’ sizes.
- They provide fast results. As NCR pads are very versatile and can be customised, they can be created for a variety of administrative tasks, such as invoices, delivery notes, purchase orders to name but a few.
Generally, businesses retain one sheet for their files (or accountants) whilst providing duplicate copies for the customer as a receipt or confirmation of order.
The History of NCR Pads
The first carbon copy pads were used in 1803 through a thin piece of paper coated with wax and ink that was placed in between 2 pieces of normal paper.
It wasn’t until 1953 that we first saw the NCR pads we know and see in businesses throughout the world today. NCR paper was invented by two chemists, Lowell Schleicher and Barry Green, who worked at the National Cash Register. This process created a system where ink was released from tiny bubbles inside its texture to be released onto duplicate no carbon required paper when pressure is applied by a pen.
What are NCR Pad Uses?
Over the years, businesses have created and developed custom carbon copy pads for many different uses. Some of the most common NCR pad printing uses include order invoices, receipts and statements, delivery notes, report or accident forms and agreements forms or contracts and in recent times due to legislation waste transfer note pads are very popular.
